Sometimes, the pendulum swings too far to one side creating an imbalance in the way of things. So it is between the well established and powerful companies that manufacture and market prescription drugs and those who remember the old ways of natural healing or have rediscovered them. The powerful have become too powerful.
Therefore in one camp is the power of the mechanists, those who manufacture drugs in laboratories. Perhaps, as some rumours would have it, they work a bit too closely with government agencies. These agencies should be non-biased, but it appears that they may be compromised. With such power, these companies, can spend huge amounts of money on research and get things approved that some may argue should not be approved. To make up for these research costs, they overcharge consumers with outrageious prices. They always seem to rack up major profits.
However, the natural remedies, much to the chagrin of such powerful industries, persist. How could that be? As a matter of fact, these powerful companies often make their medicinals from concentrated, synthetic copies of chemicals that naturally exist in nature.
So, therefore, regular remedies that grow in the forest, desert or perhaps even in one’s backyard can’t get the stamp of approval from this unnamed government agency, as a substance that is proven to have this or that effect on health. It’s rather funny when you think about it. But then, nature was there before any government and nature will be there after. Interesting isn’t it? Nature doesn’t seem to require government approval.
But we spoke of a balance a few moments ago. The power definitely seems to rest on one side of the equation. But what is happening on the other side? Alternative healers, old books, herbal remedies and folk wisdom passed down through the ages are still out there and from them, many people learn to apply natural healing methods (that don’t have that big stamp of approval from an authoritarian agency) to solve their health problems. Because the costs of getting ‘official’ treatment and officially approved prescription meds now make the cost of getting said treatment beyond the reach of many.
In other cases, some people just know about simple things that work and they seem to work better, cost less and cause less trauma to the human body when implemented than the results derived from going through ‘official’ channels. If you are a person who doesn’t have unlimited wealth, what way are you likely to go?
